This final installment of our three-part series on digital preservation focuses on the emerging technological frameworks and systems for digital preservation, with an emphasis on tools that cultural memory organizations can implement in-house, including open source components, systems, and services such as JHOVE, BagIt, LOCKSS, iRODS, and DuraSpace.

Along with an overview of these technological components and frameworks, participants will learn how these tools are employed in digital preservation systems and how to review their performance. The workshop is hosted by METRO in collaboration with Lyrasis and BCR.

The presenter is Tyler O. Walters, Associate Director of Technology and Resource Services at the Georgia Institute of Technology Library and Information Center. Walters is a co-Principal Investigator with the MetaArchive Cooperative (a partnership of the Library of Congress, National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program), serves on the Open Repositories Steering Committee, and is an interim governing board member of the Unified Digital Format Registry. He teaches digital preservation courses in the MLS program at San Jose State University, School of Library and Information Science, and teaches in and serves on the advisory board of the Digital Information Management program, University of Arizona.
